Friendship and A Movie

My friend, Anita, and I made plans to meet for lunch.  Earlier in the week, I received a Facebook message from her asking if I wanted to go and see the movie “The Blind Side” in lieu of lunch.  Anita knows I am not a fan of the movie theater, but she asked anyway (her message noting that she knew I didn’t like to go).  After some back and forth messaging, I asked her to let me think about it and she agreed.

As promised, I thought about the movie, but more importantly, I thought about what a good friend I have in Anita and how our friendship trumped the movie theater not being at the top of my “fun things to do” list.  So I told her I would be happy to go with her.  I could have just as easily said no, but I said yes, because it was something she really wanted to do, she asked and she is my friend.  That was the reason plain and simple.  Anita has been my friend for many years and has remained my friend through good times and bad.  As she said in one of our back and forth messages “I know you and I love you anyway.”  In my humble opinion, that is a true friend.

Friends don’t always like the same things, may not always agree and may even get annoyed with one another from time to time, but with a true friend, it doesn’t matter in the end.  What matters is the friendship and sisterhood you share.  Though you may not see or talk to each other as often as you’d like, you know with one call, the sisterhood will ride to your rescue.  They will walk through fire with you, celebrate your joys and success with you, they hurt when you hurt, cry when you cry, laugh when you laugh, they encourage you, support you and, yes, they know you and love you anyway.  I am fortunate to have friends like these.  My closest friends arrived in my life at the exact moment they were meant to.  They are true blessings and I love each of them for the beautiful, strong, loyal, supportive and funny women they are.  I thank each of them for loving me back.  So here’s to friendship and going to see a movie…which, by the way, was great!
